Lanzarote has a modern airport with connections to many parts of Europe which is why the majority of tourists who visit the island are European, mainly British and German. In winter, the majority of tourists come from northern Europe from countries such as Norway, Sweden and Denmark. In summer and Holy week, the majority of tourists are Spanish.
Through the year many cruise liners dock at Lanzarote, having chosen this island for the beauty of its volcanoes. Routes can be made to the most interesting sites on the island as well as having a walk through the old quarters in the capital or going shopping in one of the shopping centres or in the wide range of shops in Arrecife.
The main source of income in Lanzarote comes from tourism which generates about 80%. The island authorities includes a department called the Lanzarote Tourist Board which is an autonomous local association. The tourist offices can be found in different places on the island and give information directly to the tourist, by electronic mail, fax or telephone. Lanzarote has two associations dedicated to companies in the tourist and leisure sector: ASOLAN (Association of Hotels and Apartments on the Island), their main aims are the coordination, representation, management, promotion and defence of the general interests of the member companies on the island; and AETUR (Association of companies in the tourist and leisure sector in Lanzarote), is another association dedicated to tourism which operates in Lanzarote.
