Tinajo is situated in the western centre part of Lanzarote with Teguise to its east and Tías and Yaiza to its south.
In 1650, Tinajo was not much more than a few houses but at the beginning of the 19th century, the municipality began to progress despite being constantly threatened by volcanic eruptions.

A walk around the village is interesting to see traditional buildings. One of the tourist sites is San Roque Parish Church which is famous for its Mudejar style roof. The Nuestra Señora Virgen de Los Dolores shrine, also called the Virgen de los Volcanes, is very important on the island as it was built by the local inhabitants as thanks for their protection after the eruptions in 1730. She is the patron saint of Lanzarote and is celebrated on the 15 September. Every year the people of Lanzarote leave their villages and make a pilgrimage to her chapel, found in Mancha Blanca.
Every Sunday there is an agricultural and Handicraft market next to the chapel from 10.00-14.00. Here you will find all the best products produced on this land as well as other goods.
