The municipality of Teguise is situated in the northern part of the island and includes the Chinijo Archipelago which consists of La Graciosa, Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste. To the north it borders with Haría and to the south with San Bartolomé and Tinajo.
Teguise was founded at the beginning of the 15th century and was the capital of the island until Arrecife took its place in the 19th century.
Agriculture is the main economic activity in the municipality. The products which are grown in this jable(sandy) earth are onions, potatoes, vines, vegetables, cereals and watermelons.
The municipality has several places of cultural interest such as Santo Domingo Convent, Spínola Palace, Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Church, San Francisco Convent or Guanapay Castle.
Every Sunday there is a market which completely takes over Teguise from 9.00 – 14.00.
